Hello dears,
Another easy exercice that everyone can do! Let's write together...

1) 'Little children should be seen, but not heard.' What do you think about this statement?
2) Do you cheat at games?
3) What was your favourite toy when you were a kid?
Go for it! with THE FORCE.

Hello dears,
Voici votre première réponse à mes questions !
de votre rapidité !

ANSWER A: Topic 2: Do you cheat at games? Please, indicate possible mistakes and underline what looks clumsy to you.
To be honest, I cannot say for sure that I have never cheated in my whole life. On the contrary, it's almost certain that I have cheated more than once when I was a child. For children are keen to win, because for them (at least at certain ages) the point to play is to win! But now, I'm really more interested in playing than in winning... In my opinion, the pleasure to play is much bigger than the pleasure to win; and what's more, cheating destroys the essence of playing. In each game, you have a principle, which is to obey specific rules; winning means making the best of these rules thanks to your intelligence, and to a stroke of luck; but if you cheat, you deliberately refuse to comply with the very game, choosing to play another one: the cheating game! But then, every player has to know about it, so that everyone can play the same 'cheating game'... which indeed can get funny in some way...
for your help!

Hello Happy!
Of course I can!
but I never do it when no one has given theirs.
I don't want to influence you too much or turn the exercise into another "game"!

I'd be most happy with another try and will give my indications tonight...

ANSWER A: Topic 2: Do you cheat at games? my indications.

In my opinion, the pleasure (of playing is much greater than the pleasure of winning; and what's more, cheating destroys the essence of playing. In each game, you have a principle: (" you have to respect specific rules" winning means making the best of these rules thanks to your intelligence, and to a stroke of luck; but if you cheat, you deliberately refuse to comply with the very game, choosing to play another one: the cheating game! Hello!
magie!ANSWER A: Topic 2: Do you cheat at games? my indications.
To be honest, I cannot say for sure that I have never cheated in my whole life. On the contrary, (I certainly had to cheat/(cheated?*) more than once when I was a child.( Children want to win, because for them (at least at certain ages) the (goal of a game is to win! But now, I'm really more interested in ( the game than in winning... In my opinion, the pleasure (of playing is much greater than the pleasure of winning/simpler : playing is much more enjoyable than winning; and what's more, cheating destroys the essence of playing. In each game, you have a principle: (" you have to respect/more common: follow, or (formal) abide by) specific rules" winning means making the best of these rules thanks to your intelligence, and to a stroke of luck; but if you cheat, you deliberately refuse to comply with the very game, choosing to play another one: the cheating game! But then, ( every player should be informed that he or she is (or : they are) allowed to cheat,() so that everyone can play the same 'cheating game'... which indeed can get funny in some way...
* You changed the meaning compared to the original text.
In the original text : "... when I was a child. For children are keen to win ..., "For" was wrong because it is a coordinating conjunction (like "car") which should not start a sentence. But "... when I was a child, for children ... would be OK. I don't know why "keen to win" is not correct.

Hello dears,

'On the contrary, it's almost certain that I have cheated more than once when I was a child.'
Gerold a considéré cette phrase comme étant "clumsy", maladroite, mal dite, 'blessante à l'oreille avertie'. Peut-être pourra-t-il nous dire en quoi, ou pourquoi...
Magie, now used to hearing Aussie English didn't find it clumsy at all and confirmed it.
Yet, Gerold, definitely, wasn't satisfied...(though he didn't protest vehemently about Magie's correction.)

Then he corrected: In my opinion, the pleasure (of playing is much greater than the pleasure of winning/simpler : playing is much more enjoyable than winning; and what's more, cheating destroys the essence of playing.
In your correction, Magie, I didn't like: the (goal of game is to win! Gerold l'a corrigé ensuite. The rest is very good! Well done!

Hello,
Thank you everyone for your help

Here is a new version:
To be honest, I cannot say for sure that I have never cheated in my whole life. On the contrary, it's almost certain that I have cheated more than once when I was a child. Children really* want to win, because for them (at least at certain ages) the goal of a game is to win! But now, playing is much more enjoyable than winning;
*Je ne comprends pas non plus pourquoi "keen to win" n'allait pas, j'ai rajouté 'really' pour être emphatique
** Enlevons le 'and', il est redondant avec 'what's more'

Hello dears,

"On the contrary, it's almost certain that I have cheated more than once when I was a child."
au passé: je suis presque certain d'avoir triché : must + have + participe passé du verbe. I must have cheated more than once when I was a child.
I had to cheat at the game if I wanted to win...
Alors, bien sûr si vous dites : it's almost certain that I have cheated, ou it's important that... ou [le préféré de mes anciens élèves]: it is impossible that..., on vous comprendra... mais franchement, vous aurez l'air très franchouillard...

- comply with [sth] vi + prep (go along with, obey) (règlement, clause, disposition) respecter⇒ vtr
- 'abide by': est exact aussi. 'Abide' often means to accept or follow rules;
- 'tolerate' and 'endure' imply putting up with unpleasantness;
- 'accept' is more general and positive; 'comply' stresses obedience.

- If we used the different terms together: "my family CONFORMS TO modern society. We ABIDE BY the law and OBEY traffic signals. We make sure our children COMPLY WITH the uniform guidelines at their school."

The Right Word For The Right Sense!'
